I was initially drawn to this figure because of the bold facial features and the distinctive way the neck is carved. I also like the very small beads that still remain attached along the rim of the head, along with the simple two-tiered necklace. One detail that’s easy to miss at first glance is the subtle scalloping around the upper part of the base. It is one of those quiet details that, for me, makes the figure feel a little more special. I’ve seen another figure by this same carver that also has a date carved into the back, like this one.
