Lobi flute, Burkina Faso
wood, pigment
Mid 20th Century
definite signs of age and use
ex private collection, USA

Styles of flutes in Burkina Faso are often
somewhat common between different ethnic
groups. This style is found among the
Mossi, Bwa and the Lobi. This particular
one was field collected in a Lobi village so
I'm comfortable stating that it is indeed Lobi.
It has a nice worn surface from use, and I
like that it still has its carrying rope attached
to it.
