Bamana Chiwara, Mali
wood, pigment, string
27" tall x 4" wide x 4" deep
early to mid 20th century
ex Ladislas Segy

A very nice example almost cubist in form
with definite signs of age and use. I
especially love how the angular neck rises
out of the front of the small block shaped
body to meet up with the base of the head
lining up with the back of the figure. The
figure is especially nice when viewed at an
angle or from the side. There are quite a few
areas that have been previously broken and
restored including the front right leg and part
of the neck, the front of the face and the
right horn.
